I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas

I gotta feeling...
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good good night (2x)

I gotta feeling... (Woohoo)
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good night

Tonight's the night
Let's live it up
I got my money
Let's spend it up
Go out and smash it
Like Oh My God
Jump off that sofa
Let's kick it OFF

I know that we'll have a ball
If we get downAnd go out
And just lose it all
I feel stressed out
I won't let it go
Lets go way out spaced out
And loosing all control

Fill up my cup
Mazel tov
Look at her dancing
Just take it... OFF
Lets paint the town
We'll shut it down
Let's burn the roof
And then we'll do it again

Lets do it (4x)
And do it (2x)
Let's live it up
And do it (3x)
Do it, do it
Lets do it (3x)

At the start of the video we can see the artist of the band getting ready go out for the night. With this being shown at the start of the video we can straight away see that the target audience is based at the typical teenager. To show this even more we also get to see actual teenagers going out themselves, walking through the streets and getting ready to go out. With us also seeing the artists in the first few shots we get to know who is singing the song. This results in them being more popular and easier to recognised. Another way that the artists are shown is the way that micki mousing is used. We get to see the artist miming to the lyrics so the audience think they are singing the song, with the audience thinking this it means that it is clear to them that they are the artist of the song. As a result of this they will be able to find more songs by the band and recognise them easier.

The start of the song is slow to start, as we see people getting ready to go out as I have explained above, we don’t see many fast cuts. This is because the song has not yet reached its course. This convention lets the audience clearly know when they should expect the main part of the song to begin. When the course does begin we get to see all the people that were getting ready. The first set of fast cuts are people getting out of cars and jumping over fences to show that people are arriving at the party. We then get a cut into the party itself as we see one of the main artists in the band jumping and singing the song. This again keeps the link between the artist and the song itself.

To also represent the target audience we can see the lifestyle, clothing and actions link with teenagers. For example we can see people out at a party in there late teens early twenties drinking kiss and dancing. We can also see that the actors are dressed in a modern way, wearing high heals, tank tops and short skirts. This straight away tells the audience the target audience that is being presented which will attract the correct target audience. It also means that if for example a typical teenager is flicking through YouTube they can easily tell that the video is meant for them.

When we do see the party we get to see links between the lyrics and the video. An example of this is when we hear the lyrics Look at her dancing (Move it Move it), Just take it... OFF. At the point this is shown see the artist pointing at someone dancing and then grabbing his coat as if he is going to take it off. This link between the song and the video. This means that the audience will relate the song to the video and easily recognise the artist and the song.

Another link to the video and its target audience is the end of the song when we get short cuts of people in real life falling over, laying on bed and sitting on the floor. This is a strong link as a lot of the time most people will end up being on the floor at the end of a night after having too much to drink. To represent this even more, at the end of the video we get to see a girl laid down on some grass with rubbish surrounding her with The End lit up in the grass. This is a final representation as well as letting the audience know that the song has finished. With having a reputation as the last shot it leaves a lasting effect on the audience as that is the last shot they see.

As well as there being representation in the video we get to see a lot of conventions that are put into use by the beat of the song. For example cut to the beat is used a great deal in this music video. At the start of the song the cuts are not very frequent but as the song progresses towards the course the cuts become a lot faster place. This builds up the attention of the audience and also makes them feel involved in the song as they will be able to feel and see the song developing. This makes the audience feel connected with the song which will result in there being more chance of them buying the song which is the hole purpose of a music video.

When we get to just before 2:00 mins, we get to a point in the song were the music stutters 5 times as if it was an old record player. To represent this in the video, we get to see the point in the song repeated 5 seconds in about one second. This simple convention keeps the link between the video and the song strong so that the audience can easily see the link between the two. This will mean that if the audience enjoy the video they are more likely to buy the song, album or even the video itself.

As you can see form the conventions above, the music video for the Black Eyed Peas song I Gotta Feeling is made to see the song to the audience. If the video is a success it will also make a name for The Black Eyed Peas by promoting there name and there style of music.
